“ One word: OUTSTANDING. This place was OUTSTANDING. I had seen several people post about this place on social media, and knew I had to try it out. This place has definitely been a hot spot recently. The location used to house Fig and Olive, but once they shut down, Ocean48 took over. They did a very extensive remodel. The restaurant is absolutely gorgeous, with open concept kitchen where you can see the chefs preparing all the seafood and foods as well as pastries. There are several dining rooms/areas, so you can select a spot that gives you more intimate/private dining vibes as well. From the moment we were greeted, to the moment we were sat down, up until the moment we walked out of the restaurant, we were treated as if we were royalty. Our server Adriana was very attentive and cordial. I had noted that we were celebrating our anniversary, and they had a card on the table presented to us for the occasion. We had this amazing, buttery bread that was given complimentary as a starter. I ordered a pomegranate martini. My husband ordered an old fashioned. The martini was huge, and they left the shaker on the table so it was basically 2 drinks. For starters, we ordered a crispy shrimp dish and superfood salad. Both were lovely. The crispy shrimp appetizer is really good for sharing, and has a large amount of shrimp. For main dishes, we decided to do fish for both of us. I ordered a branzino while my husband ordered the arctic char. For sides, we enjoyed the corn creme brulee and au gratin potatoes. We probably could have done with 1 side, as this was a lot of food. But we also had plenty of leftovers, almost 2 meals to take home. Everything was delicious, but the branzino was definitely more tasty than the arctic char, which did feel a bit more on the healthy side. To end, we enjoyed a warm vanilla caramel cake, and it was to die for. They had casually asked us how many years of marriage we were celebrating, we had said 7, and they even wrote "Happy 7th anniversary" on the plate. That was a nice touch. We can't wait to return here to treat ourselves again, and will definitely be back. This was a dining experience to remember. ”
“ We went to Ocean 48 last night, and honestly, the experience was excellent. We got seated in one of the semi-private rooms next to the kitchen, which we all loved. The staff was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, the food was excellent--perfectly fresh oysters, crispy bacon, flawless fish and steak, and we capped it off with caramel cake and beignets that I'm still thinking about. But seriously, we need to address the god-awful playlist situation. It was, without question, the worst playlist I've ever heard in a restaurant. I mean, it was so bad it became part of the evening's entertainment. We went from Everybody Wang Chung Tonight, which, I swear, I have never heard in public, ever (and for good reason) to How Will I Know by Whitney Houston, to Smash Mouth, Somebody Once Told Me, (yes, you read that correct), then a Frank Sinatra song (which fit the best), and then The Gorillaz! It goes on, but these are some highlights of the absolute chaotic playlist. It was a bipolar musical roller coaster, clearly curated by someone playing a joke on guests dropping thousands on dinner, because nothing says fine dining like Smash Mouth's whiny voice blaring in the background. Please, my god, fix the playlist!! Keep it consistent with the class and atmosphere of the restaurant. Music is part of the overall experience, and as much as I'll remember everything that was good, I'll mostly remember hearing Wang Chung Tonight in the middle of dinner for the first time at any restaurant in my life. ”
“ General manager, Anthony at Ocean 48 reached out to me and we discussed the concerns I had on my initial visit. He took the time to listen and assured me he would discuss my concerns with his staff so they could make improvements. He invited me back to try them again. On this subsequent visit I had a much better experience. Crispy shrimp ($29) - This was a great appetizer with plenty of crispy shrimp coated in a sweet thai chili sauce and served with some garlic aioli. Big eyed tuna ($58) - I was impressed with the freshness of the tuna here and the presentation was beautiful. Sea scallops ($59) - These scallops were perfectly pan fried and served with a sauce that helped to elevate the flavor profile. Crab cakes ($58) - This came with 2 crab cakes with plenty of fresh crab meat and was another great seafood option. Sauteed wild mushrooms ($18) -A medley of mushrooms was sauteed in some garlic, with parsley, and thyme and was a much better accompaniment then the previous side dish I had last time. Peanut butter pie ($19) - This dessert was rich and decadent with it's peanut butter chocolate mousse, chocolate ganache and a crushed peanut crust. Overall the food items I ordered this time were much better. Service was excellent and the staff accommodated my request to sit by the indoor pool. I'm glad Anthony reached out to me and I appreciated that he personally came by to check in how things went. ”
“ Came here to celebrate my moms birthday and they did a really good job at hospitality! We got a complimentary dessert and were able to choose any from the dessert menu. They also gave my mom a birthday card! So so so nice :) The meal started off with some free buttery pastry/bread thing. It was interesting! Not my favorite kind of bread but still good. For food, i got the salmon. For sides, we ordered sautéed wild mushrooms, brussel sprouts, and Mac and cheese. My favorite were the brussel sprouts. Roasted perfectly! My salmon was also cooked well and had good flavor. But I think the best thing was my sisters herb rubbed artic char! If i were to come back, I'd order that one The inside was a little bit squished and crowded. We were sat right next to the wine bottle wall and it was hard to move around. It felt like i was in the direct path of waiters who were bringing food to other tables. :S ”
“ Bone in Wagyu Tomahawk 8.84/10- this cut of meat was absolutely fantastic! The wagyu was super tender and had this amazing marbling throughout that just melted in your mouth. They seared it perfectly which gave it such a nice crust on the outside while keeping the inside perfectly cooked. New England Lobster Rolls 9.53/10- they butter poach the Maine lobster for this and while it was definitely swimming in butter, it was honestly so good! The lobster was super fresh and sweet, and they really didn't skimp on the portion size. The roll itself was perfectly toasted and buttery too. Maine Lobster Escargot 9.27/10- loved this unique take on escargot! The truffle sauce was incredibly rich and decadent, and I loved how they topped it with caviar which added such a nice briny pop. The combination of the lobster with the truffle was perfect. Crab Cake 7.63/10- while the crab itself wasn't as fresh as I was expecting, the aioli sauce they served with it was fantastic - super creamy with the perfect amount of seasoning that really elevated the dish. King Crab + Shrimp + Shells + Cheese 7.25/10- they make this with caramelized Boursin cheese and white cheddar which gives it such a rich flavor. I liked how they were generous with the crab pieces and the shrimp was pretty good, but I wish the sauce was more creamy instead of being so liquid-y. The flavor was there but the texture needed work. Corn Crème Brûlée 8.46/10- such a unique and creative dish! I loved how they incorporated sweet corn into a crème brûlée style dessert. The contrast between the crispy caramelized top and the creamy corn-infused interior was perfect. Such an interesting way to serve corn! Crispy Shrimp 9.26/10- these were absolutely fantastic! The sweet Thai chili sauce had the perfect balance of sweet and heat, and the shrimp were perfectly crispy on the outside while staying super juicy inside. They give you such a generous portion too! Red Velvet Bread Pudding 9.32/10- this was absolutely incredible - so rich and decadent. The red velvet gave it such amazing flavor and I loved how moist it was. Perfect way to end the meal. Mango Sorbet 9.10/10- while this was just regular mango sorbet, it was super refreshing and had great natural mango flavor. Really helped cleanse the palate after all those rich dishes. The service was pretty disappointing however. Even though we had a reservation, we weren't seated until 25 minutes after. In addition, it took a while (around 40 minutes) for our server to ask us about ordering appetizers and then entrees. They had also forgotten about our crispy shrimp until we had to remind them. I definitely prefer Mastro's in terms of service and hospitality. Instagram: @hungrytamale ”
“ They have another restaurant in Beverly Hills. The entrance is very attractive-gives off this upscale ambiance-there's also a doorman :) Valet parking but you can definitely park at the mall and walk over. The restaurant emphasize in seafood and meat. We ordered their lobster escargot, signature kc steak, and Chilean sea bass. If you want sides, that's an additional charge. They offer complimentary bread which reminds me of buttery croissant/biscuit. All tasted good but not sure if it's worth the price tag. But if you add everything-ambiance, service, presentation and quality of the food then yes...it may be justifiable. Definitely a place to impress or for celebration. ”
“ We attended a birthday dinner here, and Ocean 48 is one of the best steakhouses I have ever been to. This is a beautiful restaurant with ample free parking, they also have valet for $10. The decor is gorgeous, we were seated next to the pool in the front room. Service was excellent, we never waited for anything and we were checked on constantly, refills were given immediately, plates were cleared within seconds. Everybody was so friendly and professional. Cannot say enough good things about the staff. Their drink menu is extensive, my husband tried two whiskey cocktails that he loved, my friends had a few different mixed drinks that they both enjoyed, and I had one glass of wine from their massive selection. We also brought a bottle from home to share at dinner. Their corkage is HIGH, $85. We tried a lot of food and and it was all pure perfection. Appetizers - Chef's Cut Hanging Bacon, Crispy Shrimp Deviled Eggs, Prime Steakhouse Meatballs. The bacon was thick, sweet, smokey, and slightly spicy. Very rich, I couldn't even finish my piece. The eggs were soooo good, loved the crispy fried shrimp on top and the yolk filling was slightly briny like it had capers in it. Yum! Meatballs were huge, and some of the best I have ever had, so soft and delicious. Entrees - Maryland Style Crab Cakes, Chilean Sea Bass, and two steaks that were specials of the evening - a Wagyu NY Strip and the other a Ribeye Cap. I can't pick a favorite out of all of them, everything was fantastic. We all brought about half of our plates home, the portions are generous here. The special steaks were PRICEY, at $175 each. Sides - Boursin Cheese Whipped Potatoes, Corn Creme Brûlée, Blistered Shishito Peppers. Again, no complaints here! The crunchy brûléed sugar on top of the corn made this a memorable side, and the shishito peppers had the best lemony garlic seasoning on them. Dessert - Since it was a birthday, they let the guest of honor pick whatever dessert he wanted on the house. I thought that was nice, since most places give you whatever they want for your birthday. He went with the Triple Layer Key Lime Pie. I personally don't care for key lime pie, but everybody else thought it was great. We also ordered their off-menu special of beignets which are served with two dipping sauces, white chocolate and nutella. The white chocolate was the favorite at our table, but I liked the beignets on their own, they were so light and fluffy and not too sweet. When they bring the bill out, they also bring a small plate of chocolate crinkle cookies that were scrumptious. I loved Ocean 48 and would like to return. Our bill was quite high, but we did go for the $85 corkage, plus two of our friends ordered the expensive $175 steaks. I think if my husband and I came back here alone, we could get out for about $150 - $200 a person. Some items on the menu are average, to be expected, prices for a steakhouse, while others are incredibly high. Just pay attention to what you are ordering and this place is doable for a special meal. ”
“ Chose this place to celebrate my birthday. Located by the fashion island area. First of all, the interior is amazing. There's an indoor pool that adds to the restaurant vibe. They have wide array of wine, spirits and cocktails. Food menu is found on their website. We ordered: Clam chowder - good! Lobster and shrimp salad with calamari - good! Arctic char Pepper crusted big eye tuna - I didn't like it because the pepper is so overpowering and too spicy Loulou cookies & cream gelato - 10/10! Service is good. We arrived later than our reservation time but they have a 15-minute grace period. We were sat down right away. Overall, it's a worth trying for special occasions. ”
